When Riley was a baby, he would turn blue and his mum and dad, Amy and Luke, would rush him into hospital. Finding out he’d been born with a collapsed windpipe meant he couldn’t come home.
“Nine months in hospital – three of which were in intensive care. It was a really difficult time with Luke travelling back and forth to see him on the bus every day, and not being able to work. We struggled financially.
“Having a child in hospital is so expensive. But money was the last thing we wanted to worry about with our son in hospital.”
“Family Fund gave us a grant towards the costs of travelling to the children’s hospital. We also used this to purchase a ball pit and water play for Riley in hospital, so he could learn to play like other babies his age.
